My name is Mrs. Maria Torres-Jacobs.  I live in the Dumfries area with my husband of 29 years, and I have two children.  I received by Bachelor of Arts in Human Development from the McGregor School of Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio.  My senior project at AntiochUniversity involved assessing the needs of the Rural Opportunities Incorporated-New Carlisle Migrant Head Start children and setting up access to services that met their needs.  In 2003 I completed the requirement necessary to receive my Collegiate Professional License in Elementary Education PreK-3 from the Commonwealth of Virginia.  During my five year tenure with Head Start I typically found that roughly 60% of my student population consisted of English as Second Language (ESL) Learners.  To best meet the needs of my student population, I began and completed the course work necessary to receive an, English as Second Language PreK-12, Endorsement from the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2004.  In 2008 I earned a Master of Arts in New Professional Studies, Initiatives in Educational Transformation from GeorgeMasonUniversity. 

I'm happy to be working as a Kindergarten teacher with my students and their families at Kilby Elementary.
